Advantages of Glycol Methacrylate Embedding Systems for Light Microscopy

Abstract
Recently there has been continued interest in the use of plastic embedding for many histopathologic technics. One of the most widely accepted plastics is the water-soluble JB-4 Embedding Kit™ (Polysciences, Inc., Warrington, Pa.). This article will focus on the advantages and disadvantages of using this glycol methacrylate-based material as compared with the more traditional embedding medium, paraffin. Several detailed examples of various staining procedures for glycol methacrylate-embedded sections are also presented.
