Abstract
We calculated the frequency ω versus the wave vector K for elastic waves propagating in both thick and thin plates consisting of solid inclusions placed periodically in the host material. We were particularly interested in the possible creation of spectral gaps (stop bands) in all directions of propagation for bending waves. We found that Mo, Fe, steel, or Pb inclusions forming a two dimensional hexagonal lattice in a Lucite host give rise to spectral gaps. This publication has 7 references indexed in Scilit:
