Abstract
A method of extraction of pterins from the wings of pierid butterflies is descr. Some of the chem. properties and the behavior of one of the derivatives of these pigments are discussed. One pterin occurs in mammalian tissues with probable physiol. functions. No evidence bearing on the constitution of the product was obtained. The properties of the yellow products which occur when aqueous suspensions of uric acid are heated in sealed tubes were also investigated. These are strikingly akin to those of the pterins.
