Abstract
Summary and Conclusions A high incidence of infection with T. canis was found in dogs aged 3–6 months. In mature dogs a marked difference in resistance is found between the sexes. Males exhibit little resistance to T. canis as compared to females, whose resistance increases up to the age of 3 years. A pronounced variation in seasonal incidence of T. canis was found in male dogs; the incidence was highest during winter and lowest during summer months. Female dogs showed a fairly uniform seasonal incidence. Evidence is provided in this study to show that in the Midwestern area of the United States Toxocara canis is a common parasite of dogs.
