Audiometric Testing Of Hearing Of School Children

Abstract
1726 children in the Reading School District, Reading,Pennsylvania, in the 5th and 6th grades were studied. All had been routinely tested in the 1st, 3d, and 5th grades. In the 1st 6 grades 6.5% of children given an audiometric test failed once or more. The finding of new cases amply justifies a program of biennial testing through the 1st 6 grades. A significant number of children have impaired hearing for periods of less than 2-yrs. but of more than several wks. duration.
