Abstract
The catalytic oxidation of carbon monoxide to form CO2 over polycrystalline Rh has been investigated experimentally and by numerical simulation. Transient CO2 production rates have been measured under a variety of conditions. The results are analyzed in terms of the Langmuir–Hinshelwwod combination of coadsorbed oxygen and carbon monoxide. A complex reaction model is presented which successfully simulates the present results. The model requires a transition in the activation energy for the Langmuir–Hinshelwood process from 14.3–25 kcal mol−1 accompanied by the appearance of inhibition to CO adsorption by adsorbed oxygen above 529 K.Keywords
