Carbon monoxide oxidation reaction over Rh

Abstract
The catalytic oxidation of carbon monoxide to form CO2 over polycrystalline Rh has been investigated experimentally and by numerical simulation. Transient CO2 production rates have been measured under a variety of conditions. The results are analyzed in terms of the Langmuir–Hinshelwwod combination of coadsorbed oxygen and carbon monoxide. A complex reaction model is presented which successfully simulates the present results. The model requires a transition in the activation energy for the Langmuir–Hinshelwood process from 14.3–25 kcal mol−1 accompanied by the appearance of inhibition to CO adsorption by adsorbed oxygen above 529 K.
