Abstract
A nonlinear equation of motion recently developed for the study of finite-temperature soliton dynamics is linearized and compared with corresponding results from traditional polaron theory. Numerous points of agreement are found, and points of disagreement are interpreted in the context of the full nonlinear theory. New interpretations of well-known features of traditional polaron theory are made possible through this approach. Keywords
