Salmonella in Reptiles: Isolation from Free-Ranging Lizards (Reptilia, Lacertilia) in Florida

Abstract
Ten isolations of Salmonella representing 6 serotypes [S. muenchen, S. florida, S. flint, S. gaminara, S. miami, S. oranienburg] were obtained from intestinal cultures of 124 free-ranging Florida lizards. There were isolates from lizards captured in campsites of a county park. The relationship of Salmonella and reptiles is summarized and the potential for transmission of Salmonella from lizards to humans was discussed.
