Abstract
Although research in and the development of visible light-emitting diodes (LEDs) began nearly 100 years ago, recent developments have made the field truly revolutionary. In this article, I will discuss the evolution of LEDs, provide a little history, describe some recent developments and emerging applications, and finally speculate as to where this technology might lead us in the future. Keywords
