Abstract
An aqueous extract of bark of Cymbopetalum brasiliense exerts a positive inotropic action on the isolated and perfused rat heart. This activity is due to quaternary alkaloids. Four quaternary alkaloids have been isolated and tested in vivo and in vitro: magnoflorine, N-methylisocorypalmine (a new alkaloid), tembetarine, and colletine. These last three alkaloids seem to be responsible for the inotropic activity. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
