The preparation of polymeric siloxyphosphine rhodium(I) complexes

Abstract
Hydrolysis in dioxane/water (4:1 by volume) of performed rhodium(I) complexes of the phosphines Cl3Si(CH2)nP(C6H5)2 (n = 2, 8) either alone or in the presence of excess ligand or Cl3SiCH3 affords insoluble polymeric globules. Typical products have idealized formulae {[O3/2Si(CH2)2P(C6H5)2]3RhCl•(O3/2SiCH3)200}x, {[O3/2Si(CH2)8P(C6H5)2]4Rh2Cl2}x, and {[O3/2Si(CH2)2P(C6H5)2]2Rh(CO)Cl}x and seem to contain only rhodium(I). Apart from the last example the polymers in toluene suspension react with H2 and CO at 60 °C. In the case of CO the uptake ranges from 0.27–1.30 mol of CO per atom of rhodium. The main products appear to be Rh(CO)Cl derivatives.
