Abstract
Analysis of data derived from the pattern of treatment for first permanent molars in New Zealand school children from fluoridated and non-fluoridated areas shows that occlusal surfaces became carious at a later age in the former and in such areas sealants could further reduce the need for occlusal restorations. Since occlusoproximal restorations are rare, retention of sealants for long periods is needed. Keywords
