Abstract
We show how the Schwinger-Fock gauge condition can be invoked to simplify the calculation of the covariant-derivative expansion of the one-loop effective action by reducing the problem to one for which expanding in ordinary derivatives and gauge fields independently is sufficient to guarantee manifest gauge covariance. Keywords
