A Comparison of Light and Scanning Electron Microscopy in Nerve Regeneration Studies

Abstract
Light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy were compared for qualitative assessment of rabbit axonal regrowth after injury. The superior resolution of the scanning electron microscope demonstrates a view of axonal surface anatomy not previously available. After technical problems are resolved, these methods should become routine in nerve regeneration research.
