Abstract
The average absorbed dose and the maximum and minimum absorbed doses received by biological specimens of varying size, irradiated laterally with a known exposure of Co60 [gamma] -radiation measured in air at the mid-line, have been investigated experimentally. Spheres and cylinders covering a range of sizes, filled with ferrous sulfate dosimeter, were exposed to Co60 [gamma] -radiation to determine the average dose. Maximum and minimum doses were measured by using small plastic vials of dosimeter. The data obtained are considered valid for Co60 in many exposure situations commonly encountered in radiobiology.
