Abstract
The effects of time, temperature, concentration, solvent, and catalyst in the reaction between cotton fabric and phenyl isocyanate in organic solvents have been studied. The swelling power of the solvent for the modified cotton has been found to be quite important. Under the conditions used, the reaction lacks reproducibility, probably because of traces of moisture in the reaction system. Di-n-butyltin diacetate has been shown to increase substantially the rate of reaction of the isocyanate with cotton. Keywords
