Abstract
High-resolution spectroscopy studies of hyperfine structures of stable terms in i, i i, and i i i by quantum-beat and rf resonance spectroscopy after grazing-ion–surface scattering are reported on. From the data, the electric quadrupole moment of the nucleus Q=20.0±0.2 mb and the quadrupole coupling constants /h of atoms in 2p and 2 configurations have been deduced. Extrapolation yields /h=11.2±0.2 MHz for a single electron in the ground term of the 2 configuration of the neutral atom.
