Abstract
This paper describes a modification of the method published by Gerdes and Staib for determination of free urinary Cortisol. In principle the method consists of extraction with dichloromethane, thin-layer chromatography on silicagel, elution and end-point determination by fluorimetry. C-11-desoxy-cortisol was used as a partial internal standard to control the analytical procedure from the beginning until chromatography. From this point, Cortisol itself is used as the second factor controlling the procedure from the beginning of thin-layer chromatography until end-point determination. Normal values were evaluated from 38 urine samples of healthy infants. We found ̲x = 10.03 µg/24 hours, S.E.M. = 0.69 µg, S.D. = 4.23 µg. 1 This study was supported by a grant (Sto 45/8) from the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, Bad Godesberg, FRG
