Abstract
In the presence of a Chern-Simons term, a single Dirac monopole induces a current that extends throughout space-time. The Dirac string acquires a constant charge per unit length, which should confine monopoles and antimonopoles by a linear potential. The monopole of ’t Hooft and Polyakov is generalized to include a Chern-Simons term for the gauge field, and the string tension for these monopoles is calculated. Keywords
