Abstract
An analytical formula for the electronic stopping power S of atoms with atomic number Z2 and mean excitation energy I can be obtained, on the basis of Bethe theory, for fast hydrogenlike (Zp=Z1, Ne=1) and heliumlike (Zp=Z1-5/16, Ne=2) projectiles with atomic number Z1 and velocity v. The resultant expression is S=(4πe4/mv2)NZ2L(Z1,Z2,v), where L(Z1,Z2,v)=(Z1-Ne )2ln(2mv2/I)+(2Z1 Ne -Ne2)ln(v/Zp v0)+Z1 Ne-11/12Ne2.
