Abstract
Pursuant to instructions received from the office of the secretary of the California State Board of Health, an investigation was made of a number of cases of typhoid fever which were occurring in Richmond, Calif. The health officer had previously informed the California State Board of Health that a number of cases were traceable to a dairy in Richmond, which will be known as Substation 1. Unfortunately, instructions were given to him to close this dairy. At our initial conference with the health officer, he submitted evidence that the source of infection of the majority of the cases of typhoid fever reported in Richmond was the milk supply coming from Substation 1. The number of cases in this outbreak was approximately 12, with no deaths. The majority of the patients came down with symptoms on or about Nov. 1, 1915.
