Abstract
The inner city has formed the major focus of research into urban deprivation for almost two decades. Recent studies have suggested a broadening spatial basis of multiple deprivation in British Cities. This paper employs a detailed analysis of census data at the enumeration district level to investigate the changing pattern of deprivation in a typical British city. There is clear evidence of a shift in concentration from the inner to the outer city. A number of policy implications of this trend are identified.
