The thermometric assay of ascorbic acid

Abstract
A method for the thermometric determination of ascorbic acid is described. The acid is oxidised by iodine monochloride in the presence of an excess of mercury(II) ions. The effect of excipients has been studied. A comparison of the results obtained by using this method and the B.P. method shows that there is no significant difference in the accuracy of the two techniques. The main advantages of this method are those of time and the potential of the thermometric method for automation.
