Abstract
The positive and negative ions of thiourea, allylthiourea, and dimethylthiourea produced by x irradiation at 4.2°K were studied by electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy. The g tensors for the positive ion absorptions were measured in single crystals and correlated with the molecular structure of thiourea and allylthiourea. Some predictions concerning the crystal structure of dimethylthiourea are made from ESR data. The g shift associated with the negative ion is small compared with that of the positive ion. The spectra of the aforementioned planar molecules contrast sharply with the spectra obtained from irradiated tetramethylthiourea and dibenzylthiourea, which are nonplanar molecules. Keywords
