Isotretinoin Use and Risk of Depression, Psychotic Symptoms, Suicide, and Attempted Suicide

Abstract
ISOTRETINOIN (13-cis-retinoic acid) is the active ingredient of Roaccutane or Accutane (F. Hoffmann–La Roche Ltd, Basel, Switzerland), which is indicated for the treatment of severe recalcitrant nodulocystic acne. Isotretinoin is a retinoid, the 13-cis isomer of all-trans-retinoic acid (tretinoin) and a derivative of vitamin A. Acne vulgaris affects approximately 80% to 90% of teenagers but also affects individuals in their 20s and 30s.1
