Abstract
Osteomalacia in the Bedouin was found in one case to be associated with a high phytic acid intake (in the form of unleavened bread) and a low calcium intake (500 mg/day). Vitamin D was within normal levels. The hypothesis is presented that osteomalacia in the Bedouin should be regarded as akin to the osteomalacia seen in Indians living in the United Kingdom whose main caloric source is the chapati. Keywords
