Abstract
A broadband transport architecture based on technologies available in the early to mid-1990s is described. This architecture is based on single-mode fiber for transmission and SONET (synchronous optical network/asynchronous transfer mode) for integrated access, switching, and multiplexing. It is shown that this architecture is capable of supporting both connection-oriented and connectionless transport services in a unified and consistent manner Author(s) Amin-Salehi, B.
