Abstract
A clinical review is given of 105 patients with painful necrosis or pseudarthrosis, after a nailed transcervical femoral fracture, who were treated by Moore''s arthroplasty. Patients had a mean age of 68 yr at the time of the secondary arthroplasty, which was performed 2 yr (averaged) after the fracture and nailing. A 3% mortality occurred within 6 wk of the operation. In 11.4% of cases there were complications without late sequelae, but complications with late sequelae occurred in 5.7%. At the follow-up examination, 2-8 yr after the arthroplasty, 37% of the patients had no pain, and there was an acceptable functional result in 91% of the patients. The other 9% had other debilitating illnesses. Results are compared with reports in the literature.
