Abstract
Balsam fir ( Abies balsamea (L.) Mill.), white spruce ( Picea glauca (Moench) Voss), and black spruce ( P. mariana (Mill.) B.S.P.) are the primary hosts of the spruce budworm ( Choristoneura fumiferana (Clemens) in the Lake States. In both laboratory and field tests white spruce was preferred over balsam fir for oviposition by the female moth. The average preference ratio was about 2.2:1 in laboratory tests and 2.3:1 in field test. Balsam fir was preferred over black spruce. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
