Abstract
Two factors in yeast are shown to be required for the normal growth of rats fed diets consisting chiefly of protein (casein). These factors can be differentiated by treating the yeast extract used (marmite) with alkali. One appears to be the anti-neuritic vitamin; it is rapidly destroyed by alkali. The other, which resists alkali treatment, seems to be the chief factor concerned in rendering the high protein diet adequate for growth. This publication has 3 references indexed in Scilit:
