A Broken Heart

Abstract
A 70-year-old man was brought to the emergency department because of syncope. He had a long history of type II diabetes treated with oral hypoglycemic agents but no history of heart disease, chest pain, shortness of breath, palpitations, retinopathy, neuropathy, nephropathy, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, or smoking and no history of heart disease in the family. During the night before his admission, he awoke with mild chest pain that lasted 30 minutes and subsided spontaneously. He then went back to sleep.
