Primary splenic abscess

Abstract
1. 1. The clinical features of primary splenic abscess are described, the main ones being a rapid onset and febrile course with pain over the splenic region, and a tender splenic mass which rapidly enlarges. 2. 2. Elevation of the left dome of diaphragm is described in the case reported. 3. 3. The illness is likely to be mistaken for left basal pneumonia, empyema or perisplenitis. 4. 4. It is suggested that primary splenic abscess may, in the first instance, follow massive infarction of the spleen due to thrombosis of the splenic artery.
