Abstract
The geographic distribution of the ticks is in relation with their two modes of life, parasitic on the hosts or free-living in the nature. Ten species were reported in the district of Lyons. Most of them infest mammalians. Ixodes ricinus, I. hexagonus and the two species of Dermacentor were found feeding on Man. The hosts of both the adults and younger instars may be the sames in Ixodes and Rhipicephalus ; this is never the case in Dermacentor. In our areas, the adults of most of the species are mainly active in spring. Most of these species are very common in the temperate regions. Among them, Argas reflexus, a bird tick, correlate its repartition to that of its main host, the pigeon. Ixodes festai can be found in Western Europa only. Rhipicephalus sanguineus, a cosmopolitan species in the warm countries, could be definitively adapted in the town Lyons and in its surrounding district. Keywords
