Thermochemistry of reductions caused by lithium aluminium hydride. Part 4.—Heat of formation of methyl bromide

Abstract
The heat of reduction of methyl bromide by an ethereal solution of lithium aluminium hydride has been studied in an adiabatic calorimeter. From the reaction heat we obtain ΔH°(CH3Br, g)=–9.0±0.3 kcal/mole, and D(CH3—Br)= 66.7±2 kcal/mole, relative to the C—H dissociation energy, D(CH3—H)= 102±2 kcal/mole.
