Abstract
The authors describe the in vivo staining and tanning of collagen with gold. After 8 weeks'' intra-vital administration of a univalent gold compound to rats, electron micrographs of tail tendon collagen fibers show four staining bands per period. Gold therapy caused an increase in shrinkage temperature of rat tail tendon collagen as well as a decrease in swelling ability and a prolongation of the contraction and relaxation period. In accordance with Flory''s equation, the concentration of cross-linkages increased after gold treatment. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
