Meningitis Due to Xanthomonas maltophilia: Case Report and Review

Abstract
Xanthomonas maltophilia is being increasingly recognized as an opportunistic pathogen in debilitated patients. We report a case of postoperative meningitis due to X. maltophilia and review the cases of X. maltophilia meningitis reported in the literature. Because X. maltophilia is often resistant to multiple β-lactam agents, including cephalosporins and imipenem, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole appears to be the drug of choice for treatment of X. maltophilia meningitis.
