Derivation of Lymphoma Variants With Reduced Sensitivity to Plant Lectins2

Abstract
Variant murine lymphoma cell lines no longer sensitive to the cytotoxic action of lectin antilectin and complement were selected. Lectins were affinity-purified Ricinus communis and wheat germ agglutinins. The variant cell lines expressed 0.5–0.7 of the parental amount of total lectin-binding sites and showed a 10- to 100-fold decrease in sensitivity to the direct cytotoxic action of the lectin. There were no significant changes in other cellsurface determinants.
