Abstract
Quantitative sediment samples were taken between August 1977 through September 1979 at 1 to 5 m depths off eastern Scania, southern Baltic. The infaunal community was almost totally dominated by Bathyporeia pilosa, which was found in densities of up to 19000 ind/m2. In summer and autumn the highest abundance was found at 2–3 m depths whereas the winter and early spring values showed a marked peak at 4–5 m depths. This downshore movement of the population in winter is assumed to be due to a decreased food availability at the shallower depths. This publication has 17 references indexed in Scilit:
