Abstract
SINCE 1950 a virtual revolution has occurred in the use of drugs for the treatment of arterial hypertension. Within this period medical practice has moved from an era in which there was almost no effective drug treatment for hypertension to a time when a flood of new principles and their derivatives have been introduced and are being widely used, both alone and in combination, in the management of this disease.
