Abstract
It is argued in this paper that meaningful advances toward the identification of critical variables that are contributory to collision can be made through the study of traffic fatalities, even in the absence of adequate data on the population at risk. Several examples of cross-sectional and longitudinal strategies are given to illustrate the utility of studying data from collision populations alone. Keywords
