Abstract
The rates of O consumption by washed cells of 25 spp. of marine bacteria, suspended in phosphate buffer at pH 8, with and without the addition of glucose or Na alginate, were studied in Warburg respirometers. The average rate of endogenous uptake at 25[degree] C was 21.3 X 10-9 mm2 O per cell per hr., or 140 mm3 O per mgm. bacterial N per hr. The average increase in O uptake in 0.04% glucose was 690% at 25[degree] C, and in 0.04% alginate was 36%. The average Q10 of 8 spp. was 2.3 between 5[degree] and 15[degree] C, and 2.18 between 15[degree] and 25[degree] C. With glucose, the average Q10 was 3.8 between 5[degree] and 15[degree] C, and 2.4 between 15[degree] and 25[degree] C.This publication has 14 references indexed in Scilit:
