Abstract
Aluminum-associated bone disease is a special problem in uremic patients on hemodialysis. We have observed this disorder in uremic patients with insulindependent diabetes soon after the start of dialysis treatments. We therefore studied bone biopsy specimens from 18 diabetic patients on hemodialysis to determine whether aluminum accumulates on bone surfaces at an accelerated rate in diabetes. We also measured the rates of bone formation, because lower rates may enhance the accumulation of aluminum on bone surfaces. This publication has 27 references indexed in Scilit:
