Abstract
A microscopic semi-empirical model is presented for reconstructing the local structure of the tetragonal (C4v) symmetry centre of a trivalent rare-earth ion in a fluorite lattice from phenomenological crystal field parameter value. The model is used to study Er3+ in CaF2 and satisfactory agreement with ENDOR data is obtained. Keywords
