Abstract
A description is given of a ring imaging Cherenkov (RICH) counter that uses a multiwire proportional chamber with cathode-pad readout as an ultraviolet photon detector. The detector has 10800 pads, each connected to a charge-sensitive amplifier, within an area of 58 cm*95 cm. The detector offers high-data-rate capability, a chamber sensitive time of less than 250 ns, 1-mm spatial resolution, and a multibit capability of about 50 photons/event.Keywords
