Abstract
Cecal fluid from 2 adult horses was assayed by the Limulus amebocyte lysate system for endotoxin [etox] before and after carbohydrate overload of the gastrointestinal tract. There were increases in cecal fluid etox concentrations at the 3, 6 and 12 h samplings when compared with baseline values. Concomitant cecal fluid lactate concentrations and pH values increased and decreased, respectively. Both horses subsequently developed clinical sizes of acute laminitis. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
