Abstract
Goneplax was found to have a persistent nocturnal rhythm of emergence when maintained in constant conditions in an actograph providing a simulated burrow. The rhythm was synchronized by the light/dark cycle and appeared to be reinforced by contact with the burrow walls. The activity of an animal seemed to be inhibited by the presence of others of the same species. The burrow is seen to play an important role in the life of the crab. Keywords
