The Development of Pentac® Resistance in an Outcrossing Swarm of the Two-Spotted Spider Mite12

Abstract
An outcrossing swarm of Tetranychus urticae Koch showed a rapid shift in response to Pentac ® (bis (pentachloro-2,4-cyclopentadien-1-yl) selection. No appreciable shift in response to Pentac selection was found in greenhouse strains under long-term Pentac control programs. In nature, free genetic variability was not available for the development of resistance. The imposed outcrossing system used in this study was a prerequisite to the release of variability for the response to selection.
