Abstract
Measurements of ac losses in superconducting niobium strips by the helium boil-off method have been made with a view to assessing the effects of sample thickness, surface finish and metallurgical hardness on prospective superconducting cable conductor materials. The method of preparing the strip edges has been shown to have considerable effect upon the level of measured losses. The measurement technique is described in some detail. Keywords
