URINARY 6β-HYDROXYCORTISOL IN ADRENOCORTICAL HYPERFUNCTION*†

Abstract
Three patients with abnormal amounts of 6β-hydroxycortisol in the urine are presented. In 2 of these patients, adrenal hyperplasia was found at autopsy. The third patient had Cushing-like clinical symptoms, and an adrenal adenoma was found at operation; in this case, although the excretion of 6β-hydroxycortisol was elevated, the urinary alpha-ketolic steroid pattern was otherwise normal. Technics for the isolation of 6β-hydroxycortisol are described.
