Abstract
The concentration of myocardial cyclic[c]AMP was measured in 9 dogs by radioimmunoassay after administration of aminophylline and 14 dogs served as control. cAMP concentration in the left ventricle was highest and lowest in the right atrium in the control dogs. Ventricular fibrillation was induced immediately after the injection of 30 mg/kg aminophylline in 3 of 9 dogs. Left ventricular cAMP concentration in 6 dogs which tolerated aminophylline was significantly elevated compared with controls (P < 0.05). Left ventricular cAMP in 3 dogs with ventricular fibrillation was significantly higher compared with that in aminophylline-tolerated dogs with non-fibrillating hearts (P < 0.01). cAMP concentration is apparently elevated in the fibrillating heart. This publication has 6 references indexed in Scilit:
